Privacy Policy

Who we are

This website is run by Building Faith, a ministry of Lifelong Learning at Virginia Theological Seminary. We are dedicated to equipping leaders for 21st century ministry. 

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

We use a comment function that asks for your name, email. We keep that information so that way we can follow-up with you if needed. 

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service.. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Contact forms

We collect your info in contact forms, but we don’t sell it. We keep it to answer your questions, comments, and follow-up to your inquiries. 

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Newsletter

We use MailChimp to create our e-newsletter campaigns in audience. Your email is saved when you sign-up to receive our newsletters. You will opt in to receive our weekly/monthly e-newsletters delivered to your email. MailChimp will collect information on your open rate, place, and other data involving receiving the newsletters. 

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These other websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to track what our website does best. We use these analytics to craft our content, learn more about our audiences and search terms. 

Who we share your data with

We will use your information to respond to you, regarding the reason you contacted us. We will not share your information with any third party outside of our organization, other than as necessary to fulfill your request,

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

Your comments live on our website as long as the page or post exists. If you would like the comment to be taken down, please contact us ([email protected]). 

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. If you sign-up for our email newsletter(s), your information is brought over to our email creation system, MailChimp.

How we protect your data

We make sure that we don’t sell it and we keep our plugins and widgets up to date. 

What third parties we receive data from

We receive data from Google Analytics, WordPress, EventBrite, and other WordPress plugins that we use. 

What automated decision making and/or profiling we do with user data

We use your user data to make it to make our site better, and for targeted social media ads.
