Home/Featured/Annual Planning Calendar Templates: Years A + B + C

Annual Planning Calendar Templates: Years A + B + C

After phone calls, emails, text messages, and social media queries here are three Educational Planning Calendars for your formation needs following the three lectionary cycles: Years A, B, and C. I have formatted them in Word so you can download and adapt them to your own circumstances, adding in the dates each year. I have removed dates, so when you download the document you can add them depending on the year you are constructing.

Since the church calendar is a “movable feast” each year as the date of Easter always changes, each “Proper” lectionary reading is listed during “Ordinary Time” (the Season of Epiphany and the Season after Pentecost). You will need to determine which Proper to begin with by the day of the season, such as 5 Pentecost / The Fifth Sunday after Pentecost. Note, just because a Sunday may be 5 Pentecost, it does not mean that Proper 5 is used.

Calendar References

Two websites that you can use as a cross-references to get you started in filling the dates on the calendar out yourself:

  • The Lectionary Page using the Revised Common Lectionary for The Episcopal Church with calendars for 2022, 2023, and 2024 that provide the readings (with links) to all Sundays and major feast days. Scroll down on the main page (below the monthly calendar) to find many more resources and explanations about the church calendar and the lectionary.
  • The Prayer Book Guide to Christian Education, 3rd edition (2009: Church Publishing) has a website that offers commentary and discussion questions for every Sunday in Years A, B, and C. Put the Sunday (ex. Year B, Advent 2) in the search engine to find the Sunday you are seeking.
