Hispanic, Latinx/Latine, and Indigenous Heritage Month Resources for 2023

September 15 – October 15 is National Hispanic Heritage Month in the U.S. This month invites us to commemorate the histories, experiences, and contributions of people in the United States who are of Spanish and Latin American descent as well as Indigenous people to whose ancestors the land in Latin America first belonged. It also calls us to acknowledge the injustices that Hispanic, Latinx/Latine, and Indigenous communities have struggled against in the U.S. and to advocate for justice, equity, and lives of flourishing with and for these communities.

To help Christian communities amplify Hispanic, Latinx/Latine, and Indigenous stories during this month and throughout the year, we at Building Faith have compiled a resource list. We have opted to include “Latinx/Latine” and “Indigenous” in naming this list in order to attend to the diverse ways that people of Spanish, Latin American, and Indigenous descent in the U.S. identify themselves and to promote gender inclusivity. This list features new and relatively recent books, articles, podcasts, videos, and virtual exhibits with Christian resources interspersed throughout. We hope that these resources will enrich Christians’ understanding of Hispanic, Latinx/Latine, and Indigenous histories and inspire churches in seeking justice and solidarity with Hispanic, Latinx/Latine, and Indigenous communities.
