Prayer for a Church Convention

“The essential gifts of the Holy Spirit would be generous perceptions in the midst of disagreement, uplifting speech in public and private conversation, and kindness in all encounters.”

Large Church Gatherings
Many Christian denominations have large gatherings every few years, often involving elections, policy, and budgeting. In the Episcopal Church in the United States, for example, there is General Convention, which begins June 25, 2015. At Building Faith, we are praying for this convention, and lifting up prayers for Christian leaders everywhere.

This is a prayer that I wrote today. It’s not the most profound or eloquent prayer, but I offer it up. If you like it, you can use it to help you pray for this convention, or for other church gatherings.

A Prayer for a Large Church Gathering (written by Matthew Kozlowski)

At this gathering, I pray that:
The essential message would be Jesus Christ and his good news.
The essential people would be those whom we are called to serve:
the poor, the hungry, the sick, and those in prison.
The essential values would be humility and compassion.
The essential gifts of the Holy Spirit would be generous perceptions
in the midst of disagreement, uplifting speech in public and
private conversation, and kindness in all encounters.
The essential decisions would be in service of our goal to
make disciples for Jesus.
I pray all this in his holy and life-giving name. Amen.
